Use what works for you. I know many that don't own or use on.
Wayne Henderson I never saw use one.

I'm trying to remember what Wayne's favorite pie was that the author of "Clapton's Guitar" used to try to bribe him.... :D

The nice thing about getting older is that even though I once read "Clapton's Guitar" I suspect that if I read it again it would all be new to me again... :? :D

Wayne Henderson does not, as far as I am aware, build electric guitars for metalheads and shredders who are obsessive about low buzz-free action.

The peeps at StewMac did themselves no favors by posting their latest video showing the new jig with an acoustic guitar.... they really should have used a Les Paul or a Strat in their demo.

I think I was actually the first person to view the video of the new StewMac neck jig...certainly the first person to comment on it.. my comment still stands.

LOL

Sorry but the bit about how fat the belly is almost made me laugh off my chair. Maybe I'm a fool. I do always sight a neck like I am shooting a rifle as it would hang the way a guitar player holds it but I never really considered if he had a beer belly or not. laughing6-hehe

There is more than one way to get the neck plane dialed in. I have 2 different neck jigs used them both a time or 2 but feel more comfortable with the methods I do use. Like Mr Arnold, if I get a bad neck I will lever off under tension with a pillar file. I agree , you have to use what you feel comfortable with and what you like. Funny thing is that of all the guys I know that build and I mean high end builders few use them.

I agree and don't know anyone who is a builder who has a neck jig either. Which brings up another thought in my mind - builders have every opportunity to not need a neck jig in my view by how and what they build. Build em straight and true with a working truss rod, correct neck angles, and seasoned materials that minimize movement and the opportunity to have what Dan Earlywine calls a "rubber neck" is minimized and you should not need a neck jig. We agree with John and others too that there are other ways to get the functionality of the neck jig and more if that's your bag.

For Sam who teaches at what is in my opinion one of the finest Lutherie Schools on the planet, The Galloup School the neck jig(s) that they have are pretty important in the context of providing a clear, visual reference as a learning tool. Some of their students go into repair as well and I see the benefits clearly for the jig in an educational setting.

Besides these things can hold a LOT of beer bottles too.... :D And you can always part out the thing and make really useful tools with the various dial indicators.... :D [uncle] Every time I see that Teeter Hang-Up thing on TV I think of neck jigs too and if I can hang upside down with ours... laughing6-hehe
